Caught in a bind: Student teaching in a climate of state reform

The writers discuss the student teacher placements of two preservice teachers. The experience of these teachers illustrates the difficulties that many preservice teachers encounter when they are expected to implement methods advocated in university coursework while also being expected to fit into the classroom to which they are assigned.
